Well, it's been two months since my last post and the kitchen is almost completed. It's been moved upstairs so Faye can play with it.
Still needs the baseboard. The bottom pieces of the original cabinet are in sad shape, so I want to cover them with baseboard. I also need to get a landscape photo printed, framed, then hung to look like a window above the sink. I'm sure it will even have some curtains.

Here's a close-up of the countertop. All the knobs really turn. I used some CDs for the cooktop burners,  a stainless steel bowl for the sink, and a real faucet I found at the Re-Build It Store.

There hasn't been much time to work on the kitchen lately, just a few minutes here and there, but I did get it all primed, then decided it needed a microwave. That, I added up in the corner next to the refrigerator. All of the doors and shelves are lined up in my work room, being painted. Today, I started putting some color on it. Yellow for the cabinet, white on the appliances. I hope to work on it more this week and at least get it all painted.
Then I plan to put a faux granite countertop in. That is a three day process.

I can't believe almost four months have gone by since my last entry. I will try to post more often.

I started another project two weeks ago and thought I would post my progress as I go. This one is a labor of love for my granddaughter Faye (and other grandchildren that come along). After finding this idea on Pintrest, I thought I'd try.

I am so bad at taking pictures. Having forgotten to take one before I started, I remembered soon after I started. First, I put wheels on the bottom for moving it easily. In the first picture, I have taken off the two 12" doors on either side on the bottom (I set one back in for the picture), and moved the right side divider over to the left a bit. Then, I attached a piece of 1" x 2" to the bottom of the middle section. Can you guess yet what I am working towards? 

It's going to be a kitchen!! Can you picture it yet? I have it all in my mind, now to execute it.

The left side will be a refrigerator, the middle bottom, an oven, the left bottom a sink cabinet.

After a couple more hours of work, I now have the construction almost completed. The doors are all cut out of MDF, the edges were all rounded with the router, and a window was cut into the oven door. Pictures soon.

Now the fun begins - painting!!

About three weeks ago, I purchased this file cabinet from a neighbor, and have been working on it since as time allowed. It was finally completed today. I love to stencil, so many of my furniture pieces have stenciling somewhere. For this one, all the stencils were from Royal Designs Studio, one of my favorite stencil suppliers.
I started by taking off all of the hardware, cleaning, then lightly sanding the whole thing, followed by a coat of primer. First I painted it a burnt orange color, but decided I didn't like it, so changed that to the burnt umber. Deciding which stencils to use was difficult, since I own so many. The tile stencils seemed to be made for the drawer fronts, then I chose a couple of borders I liked and painted the lighter stripes on the sides. I stenciled the middle first, then went to find hardware. I was glad that I hadn't stenciled the smaller borders on the side yet, since I found the nice little pumpkin colored pulls. Matching the color of the pulls with the border helped tie it all together. Then I just had to put the ball feet on it for some whimsy (learned from Jennifer Ferguson of Artistic Painting Studio and the Stencilled Garden).
